Governance

The Governing Body provides strategic oversight, support and challenge to school leaders, ensuring that Swallow Grange delivers high-quality education, safeguarding, care and outcomes for all pupils. Governors monitor compliance with the Independent School Standards, hold leaders to account and support the school's vision, values and development priorities.

How Governors Monitor Effectiveness

Governors fulfil their responsibilities through:

  • Termly Governing Body meetings
  • Monitoring visits and learning walks
  • Review of safeguarding and compliance documentation
  • Scrutiny of pupil outcomes, attendance and behaviour data
  • Review of financial and operational performance
  • Monitoring of school improvement priorities

Managing Director

Jayne has over 30 years' experience in business ownership, leadership and organisational development. As Proprietor and Managing Director, she is responsible for the strategic direction of Swallow Grange and ensuring that the school fulfils its vision, values and statutory responsibilities.

Sarah Henry

Chair and Finance Governor

Sarah brings extensive experience in business operations and financial management. As Chair, she supports the proprietor in providing strategic leadership and effective governance. She also provides scrutiny and challenge regarding financial sustainability, budgeting, resource allocation and value for money, helping to ensure the long-term success of the school.

Vice Chair

As Vice Chair of the Board, Malcolm Smith brings a wealth of experience, strategic insight, and a strong commitment to ensuring every child has access to high-quality education and support. Passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs, he works closely with the Board to provide effective governance, challenge, and oversight. His collaborative approach and dedication to the organisation's values help drive continuous improvement and support Footsteps to Futures Education in delivering life-changing opportunities for the children and families it serves.

HR and Wellbeing Governor

Katie brings valuable experience in people management, workforce development and staff wellbeing. She supports the Governing Body by providing oversight of recruitment, retention, workforce planning, staff wellbeing and professional development, helping to ensure that Swallow Grange remains a positive and supportive place to work.

Selina has significant experience supporting children and young people. She provides oversight of safeguarding arrangements, SEND provision, behaviour and attendance, and the quality of education offered to pupils.

Parent Governor

As Parent Governor, Jade Gladding brings a valuable family perspective to the Board through her lived experience as the parent of a child with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) attending Swallow Grange. She is passionate about ensuring that every child receives the understanding, support, and opportunities they need to thrive. Jade is committed to working collaboratively with the Board and leadership team to champion the voices of children and families, helping to shape an inclusive, nurturing environment where every learner can achieve their full potential.

Clerk to Governors

As Clerk to the Governors, Kate Annibal plays a vital role in supporting the effective governance of Footsteps to Futures Education. She provides expert advice on governance procedures, statutory responsibilities, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that the Board operates efficiently and transparently. Kate works closely with Governors and senior leaders to coordinate meetings, maintain accurate records, and support informed decision-making, helping to uphold the highest standards of governance in the best interests of the children and families the organisation serves.

Staff Governor

As Staff Governor and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), James Tait brings valuable frontline experience and a deep commitment to the wellbeing and success of every pupil at Swallow Grange. His dual role provides an important link between the governing body and the day-to-day life of the school, ensuring that staff perspectives and pupils' best interests are represented in governance. Passionate about creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment, James leads on safeguarding across the school, working closely with staff, families and external agencies to ensure that every child is protected, supported and able to thrive.
